The building behind you was built, in part, by the students of Douglass High School during the 1941-1942 School Year. It began as the shop building and later served as a band room and classroom.
Isaac J. Daniel
Tenure: 1946-1968
Mr. Daniel began as the Industrial Arts Teacher at Douglass HS in 1946 and remained at the school until 1968. In addition to teaching Industrial Arts, Mr. Daniel taught in later years Civics, "Education", History and Math, and was an Advisor at various times for Student Council (also called Student Congress), Industrial Arts Club, and Math & Science Club.
Charles E. Hankerson
Tenure: 1967-1967
Mr. Hankerson taught music and developed a band program at Douglass HS from 1962 until 1967. He was a graduate of A&M University bringing excellent marching band experience. The Douglass High School marching band was the envy of other schools in the County and the music department thrived under his leadership.
Moses D. Knox
Tenure: 1941-1946
Mr. Knox was the first Industrial Arts teacher at Douglass HS. His Industrial Arts students built a portion of the shop building during 1941-1942 school year under his guidance. Mr. Knox was the owner of a construction company in Emporia, Virginia.
