English translation
Thomas Badia of Modena, most renowned for learning, self‑discipline, and holiness, Cardinal of Saint Sylvester, a man of the quietest disposition. To the senatorial order and to all mortals he left an incredible example of a certain remarkable frugality, piety, and every virtue of life. As for other honors of whatever kind, he did not so much refuse them as he seemed worthy of themyet he was thought to have escaped them only by death itself. Francis Badia set this up for his excellent brother. He lived 63 years, 9 months, 27 days.

Excerpt: "On his return to Italy Paul III created him cardinal, and though selected as one of the legates to preside at Trent he was retained at Rome to examine the doctrinal and disciplinary memoranda drawn up in the sessions of the council. It was on his favourable recommendation and approval of its constitutions that Paul III confirmed the Society of Jesus. At his own desire he was buried in the Minerva beside Cardinal Cajetan."(Submitted on January 17, 2026, by Sean P. Flynn of Oak Park, Illinois.)
