1. Multiple All Up Round Canister (MAC) Marker
In response to this challenge, Northrop Grumman developed the MAC.
This is the top section of the prototype MAC. It was installed in one of the Trident missile tubes on USS Florida (SSBN 728) to demonstrate the capability to carry and launch Tomahawk cruise missiles. Although the prototype MAC could only carry three missiles, the production MACs carry up to seven missiles.
The first four Ohio-class submarines were converted into Guided Missile Submarines (SSGN), submarines optimized for conventional strike and special operations warfare.
