1. Harpoon Missile Marker
Inscription. The Harpoon missile is one of few weapons carried on U.S. Navy attack submarines. It was originally carried from 1984 to 1997 and returned to service in 2021 with upgraded capabilities.

Improvements include GPS guidance for autonomous, all-weather capability and the ability to execute anti-ship and land-strike missions.

The Harpoon, contained in a canister, is launched from a torpedo tube. Fins on the canister ensure that the canister surfaces at the correct angle. A rocket motor propels the missile into the air. When it achieves sustained flight, the missile drops to a low-level flight profile to seek its target.

Launch Sequence:
1) Missile clears tube
2) Canister broach, nose jettisoned, booster ignited
3) Harpoon boost stage
4) Jet engine ignites
5) Booster
6) Low-level cruise begins
7) Seeker lock-on

Length: 15 ft
Weight: 1.525 pounds (with booster)
Range: 80 miles
Speed: Subsonic - about 540 mph
Warhead: 488 pounds
