People of all ages, races and backgrounds walked these grounds from the 1820s until the garden was destroyed in 1947. Those who grew up after World War II remember it as a block filled with parking lots and businesses of all kinds. Today, thanks to a major gift from the Darnall W. and Susan F. Boyd Foundation, current and future generations of visitors can benefit from this renewed garden greenspace.

Curating a Living Collection
Unlike the former estate's original garden, today's grounds feature identification plates that provide visitors important information about the plants, trees and flowers grown here. Further information is available online through Historic Columbia's plant database.
,br> Worth a Thousand Words
Historic photographs of the original garden have played a major role of rehabilitating the former estate's grounds. Many images feature garden "furniture," like arbors, trellises and benches, some of which ave been reproduced in the current landscape.
