Founded in 1935 and affiliated with the Garden Club of America since 1941, The Palmetto Garden Club of South Carolina stimulates the knowledge and love of gardening and restores, improves and protects the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement. A long-time supporter of Historic Columbia's Garden Restoration Initiative, its members invite you to explore the horticultural heritage of South Carolina's capital city as embodied at the Hampton-Preston estate.

This modern architect's rendering depicts the mansion after renovations made between 1848 and 1850. During the next 15 years, the estate's garden continued to awe visitors to the estate, which grew in natural splendor with each season.
