Boulder City in Clark County, Nevada — The American Mountains (Southwest)
Discover Hoover Dam
Explore an American Icon
The Bureau of Reclamation welcomes you to Hoover Dam, one of the exceptional engineering achievements of the 20th Century.
Hoover Dam and Lake Mead have provided a reliable supply of water and affordable electricity to the people of the Southwest since the 1930s. The growth of great American cities like Los Angeles would not have been possible without the dam. Nor would the irrigated farmlands of the region, which supply 80% of Americans' winter fruits and vegetables, have been able to produce such bounty.
We hope you enjoy your visit to one of America's truly special places.
See How it Works
When you purchase a tour ticket, you not only get to see the inner workings of the dam, but you can also explore Hoover Dam's exhibit galleries and enjoy fantastic views from the observation deck.
Did you know?
The Hoover Dam weighs as much as 18 Empire State Buildings, 685 Eiffel Towers, 29,000 Statue of Liberties, or 46,000 blue whales.
Who pays the bills?
No tax dollars are used to operate Hoover Dam. Operating costs are paid with revenues from the sale of electricity, as well as tour and parking fees.
Off the Strip.... Way off.
From quaint museums to remote canyons, the Hoover Dam area offers activities for every age, ability and taste. We hope you will take some time to explore all that the region has to offer.
Be Cool, Be Safe!
Dozens of workers died from heat-related causes during the construction of the Hoover Dam. Don't be a statistic! Drink plenty of water, Wear a hat and apply sunscreen. Call 911 in an emergency.
