Wheels in Motion. Designed by Brandy C. Scholl and TG&R Landscape Company. , Wheels in Motion is a transformative public art piece that visually represents Rock Hill's evolution from an industrial city dominated by textiles to one that is centered on the creation of new technology and a knowledge economy. The design was inspired by imagery collected from Rock Hill's 20th century textile and buggy industries, primarily circular forms such as fabric rolls and buggy wheels. The continuous loop in the design references time, which connects the past to the present and the present to the future. Colorful bands of plants circle the outer edge of the loop to create a living sculpture that changes seasonally as well as by yearly, growing and transforming along with the City. Within the layers of foliage, shrubs and grasses lay ten concrete discs that emphasize unique qualities of Rock Hill's culture and community., Wheels in Motion was created through a partnership between the City of Rock Hill, Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation's Rock Hill Designs for Rock Hill Places initiative, the Arts Council of York County and Winthrop University. The goal of Rock Hill Designs is to incorporate "locally created, locally inspired" public art into new municipal projects. For the Knowledge Park Roundabout, on design concepts for the Roundabout. Brandy Scholl's design was selected by a group of community-based stakeholders, and she then worked with TG&R Landscape Group to refine her design into the final project.
