Sedalia in Guilford County, North Carolina — The American South (South Atlantic)
Tea House
The 1929 Green Parrot Tea House, usually just called the Tea House, was the student canteen (snack shop). The long wing was added in the early 1950s as the student body grew.
Students gathered at the Tea House during their recreation and leisure hours, sharing sodas and snacks. The shop was typically run by a male senior student and staffed by underclassmen, giving them an opportunity to learn business operation skills.
The Tea House hours were limited, and female students were not allowed in the shop after dinner. Often girls would ask boys to pick up snacks for them and to meet them somewhere on campus for retrieval.
