It was ascertained, upon careful inquiry, by a tradition resting upon the concurrent statements of several persons of known accuracy and reliability not now living, whose memory extended back into the last century, that the Pillar of Liberty was first placed on the corner of the Meeting-House Common, at the junction of High and Court streets.
