Inscription. Home of the first Regular Army, Women's Army Corps Training Center

Between 15 June 1948 and 26 May 1954, over 19,700 women enlistees, reenlistees, and reservists completed Basic Training at this site. Many remained to receive leadership or specialist training. The WAC School, also at this site, trained WAC officer candidates and direct commission officers.

The marker is just out of frame to the right underneath the tree shown on the edge of the photograph.

garrison opened the old 19th Street gate as a public access route to the Museum Enclave - which includes this marker and the Army Women's and Quartermaster Museums as well as the limited-access Ordnance Training Support Facility (housing parts of the Aberdeen Proving Ground collection) - by changing the security perimeter to exclude the museums and enable direct public access.
