1. Women In War - American Revolution Marker
Women during the American Revolution played an important role in the defense of the newly founded nation. Many took care of the homefront while men went off to war. Others found ways to follow their husbands, fathers, or brothers and provided crucial support during a time when a large institutional infrastructure did not exist. Many women suffered the hardships of camp life and often found themselves in the midst of battle. Their motivation for providing assistance to the Army varied and was sometimes economic, domestic, or patriotic in nature. Nonetheless the circumstances in which they served were often stark and dangerous.

2. The Women in War 'trail'
This marker is the first of a series along a walkway east of the U.S. Army Women's Museum.

In 2025 the garrison opened the old 19th Street gate as a public access route to the Museum Enclave - which includes this marker and the Army Women's and Quartermaster Museums as well as the limited-access Ordnance Training Support Facility (housing parts of the Aberdeen Proving Ground collection) - by changing the security perimeter to exclude the museums and enable direct public access.
