Inscription.
Yellow Submarine
Circa mid-1960s; Unknown Maker; Colorado, USA

One-man submarine used by a Colorado fire-rescue team and later for recreational purposes by a Key West dive shop. It has a WWII era motor; a battery box; air-driven; ballast tanks; manual controls fully articulated for pitch, roll and yaw. As a wet sub, this watercraft would have been piloted by a diver wearing scuba gear. It has successfully dived to 150 feet.

Recompression Chamber
Circa WWI; Julius Pintsch; Berlin, Germany

Portable one-man recompression chamber used to treat the bends, or decompression sickness, caused by the formation of nitrogen bubbles in a diver's bloodstream and tissues as a result of ascending too quickly from great depths.

The affected diver is placed inside, and the chamber is pressurized to reduce the size of the gas bubbles, allowing them to be reabsorbed into body tissues. Pure oxygen is added to speed up the release of nitrogen. The pressure of the chamber is then slowly reduced to match surface pressure, allowing the nitrogen to gradually and safely escape from the diver's body.
