1. The Kapalua Villas Reception Center Marker
The Honolua Plantation Office, headquarters for pineapple growing and canning operations in this region, was relocated from the Honolua lowlands to this site in 1912. More than 90 years old, this structure is the oldest remaining building in this area from the plantation days. Still visible today, a massive steel door, at the rear of the Villas Reception Office marks the entrance to a large walk-in vault where the daily receipts, meticulously handwritten leather-bound journals and stacks of cash for workers wages were secured.
The building also served the village post office, receiving and delivering mail until it closed in 1957, two years before Hawaii statehood, when rural delivery began.
