1. Dune Wall Marker
These 8000 lb. pillars are mock-ups for the Lake County Interstate Visitor Information Center's 56' high, 3 ft. thick, 5 million pound, "Dune Wall". It took 90 trucks to transport the cement.
The mock-ups were created in order to evaluate the various texture and color options available. These architectural samples are each produced with different concrete ratios and color mixes. Also, note the gutter and smooth finish that can be seen at the front of the plaza.
The dune wall took 5 months to erect and supports all other structure and load bearing in the building. An additional month was required to sandblast the 13,000 sq.ft. surface to reveal the "dunelike" colors of Indiana's Lake Michigan beachfront.

Fred Berglund & Sons Inc. construction company poured concrete for the dune wall Friday afternoon.
