Gaston's Mill
Let's Get Historic
Gaston's Mill is one of the last functioning mills in Ohio today. Construction on the mill began in 1830 and was completed in 1837. In 1849, it was sold to James Gaston, one of several owners throughout the mill's long history. The Gaston family owned the mill longer than any other owner, except for the State of Ohio.
The mill was operated by waterpower from the Sandy and Beaver Canal until 1886, when it was converted to steam power and eventually to a gasoline engine. In the mid-1900s, restoration efforts were made to exactly copy the original structure and machinery. The mill was returned to its former glory in 1973.
