1. Ehrenberg Road Marker
Inscription.
For more than two decades before the railroad, the main supply route to Prescott and Fort Whipple was the Ehrenberg wagon road, which passed near this place. Freight was transported by sea from San Francisco and Los Angeles around Baja California, then transferred onto paddlewheel steamers which travelled up the Colorado River to ports such as Yuma, Ehrenberg, and La Paz. There it was unloaded onto freight wagons pulled by mules for the 150-mile journey to Prescott. A second wagon road from Hardyville (today's Bullhead City) was slightly shorter and primarily a toll road that joined the Ehrenburg road just north of this site.
