Inscription. This is the site of the founding of the Nathanael Lutheran Church 16th day of May 1885.

A band of Swedish immigrants joined together to build a church on the prairies of Lincoln County, S.D. From this small beginning the prayers of these pioneers have been answered to a very flourishing and beautiful church, L.C.A., located in Alcester, S.D.

Here rest in peace the hardy pioneers who through hard work and sacrifice, established and supported the church in its beginning.

We, of Nathanael, 1971, have erected this marker as a tribute to all who had a part in the early formative years of the church. Your faith and trust in God gave you the strength and wisdom to accomplish the almost impossible.

If you had not been---we perhaps would not be.

Erected 1971.
