Baluarte de Santa Barbara

First constructed as a wooden platform at the mouth of the Pasig River, 1593. Rebuilt in volcanic tuff (adobe) with storage vaults and powder magazines, 1599. Old storage vaults turned into the dungeons, with a new storage facility constructed on higher ground, 1715. Further fortified with the construction of the Falsabraga Media Naranja, a semi-circular platform at the riverside, 18th Century. Forms part of the fortifications of Intramuros, which were declared as a National Historical Monument, 1951; then as a National Cultural Treasure, 2014.
