San Francisco to New York City, 1903

George Adams Wyman
The first person to cross America by motorcycle, riding from San Francisco to New York City May 16 – July 6, 1903

George A. Wyman was the first person to make a transcontinental trip across America by means of a motorized vehicle. He rode a 200cc, 1.25-horsepower 1902 "California" motorcycle designed by Roy C. Marks of the California Motor Company.

Late Sunday afternoon of June 28, Wyman was traveling along the lake shore road, near Evans Township, when the front forks of his motorcycle broke. He walked his disabled motorcycle two miles along Lake Street to Angola. Not able to make repairs, Wyman likely checked into the Angola Hotel on Commercial Street. Monday morning, after two hours at a local machine shop, he was back on the road, arriving in Buffalo around 11:00 am.
