Lumi the Pie Lady
Lumi Bekteshi had never baked a pie before she began managing the Palms Grill Cafι on Route 66 in Atlanta in the spring of 2009. Three months later, she earned two first-place Blue Ribbons at the Illinois State Fair for her peach and apple entries.
She credits her accomplishments to her friend and pie-baking teacher, Atlanta resident Bill Thomas - but Lumi was already an experienced baker having learned breadmaking and other baking skills from her mother while growing up in Macedonia. Adding pie baking came naturally to Lumi, who proved to be a gifted student.
Which is why it made sense to Nick, her husband and Country-Aire restaurant owner, to celebrate Lumi's baking accomplishments in a big way by welcoming "Lumi the Pie Lady" to the spot where they work together to serve up their hospitality, delicious food and, of course, great pie.
