Hier stand das Geleitshaus des Markgrafen von Ansbach, der den Kaufmannszügen Schutz und Geleit gewährte. Er war einer der drei rivalisierenden Herren Fürths neben dem Dompropst von Bamberg und dem Rat der Reichsstadt Nürnberg. Diese Dreiherrschaft bestand bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts und hat die Fürther Geschichte sowie die Mentalität der Fürther Bevölkerung nachhaltig geprägt.
Here stood the trade escort building of the Margrave of Ansbach, who granted protection and safe conduct to merchant caravans. He was one of the three rival rulers of Fürth, alongside the provost of Bamberg Cathedral and the council of the Imperial City of Nuremberg. This trilateral rule persisted until the end of the 18th century and profoundly shaped Fürth's history and the mentality of its inhabitants.

The "Geleitshaus" (escort house) was the official residence of the escort officer, representing the Margrave of Ansbach, one of the three lords (Tripartite rule) in Fürth. Even before Fürth was granted city status (first class), it served as the seat of the city administration, alongside the city court. From 1824 onward, the city council was able to move into the newly constructed school building on the church square, thus changing the building's function once again.(Submitted on February 18, 2026.)
"The name Geleitshaus (Glaitshaus, Glaizhaus) comes from the purpose of the house. It was in this building that the people were located who, according to the custom of the time, gave safe conduct to those traveling abroad. Before Ansbach purchased this property, it served as the residence of the safe-conductors, etc." The safe conduct itself was already confirmed throughout the entire principality by Emperor Charles IV in Prague in 1364.
