1. Bigger and Better Marker
The original hotel made up the center section of the new one, with the addition of giant wings; separated by covered, open-air walkways. A 400 foot porch was added along the front and sides of the building, which became known as "The Longest Porch in Texas." Children enjoyed roller skating on it. A dining room was also added featuring Haviland china and a permanent orchestra which played for both lunch, dinner and Sunday afternoon concerts. The new hotel was renamed Hotel Palacios. It was the center of social life in town, hosting countless banquets, dances, and parties.
