A life long resident of Schiller Park, "Randy" attended Kennedy and Lincoln schools before graduating from East Leyden High School.
Randy spent many of his days playing little league baseball and other sports with his family and friends at this field.

Regarding Shelton Field. Army private Randol Shelton graduated from East Leyden in 2003. He enlisted in the Army in 2005 and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, based out of Fort Riley, Kansas. Serving in Baghdad on September 4, 2007, he died from wounds he suffered from an improvised explosive device. He was 22 years old. Shelton is buried at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, about four miles
southwest of the field that bears his name.

"'When he was younger, baseball was his favorite sport,' said Bryan Shelton, Randol's father. 'He played little league baseball there. I remember when the kids were young we would walk over to watch the games.'"
