Faville House

Faville House. . , Franklin D. Faville funded the construction of this house about 1855, the same year he built the house immediately to the west. In 1870, F.R. Kirchner, a policeman, bought the house. He sold it in 1901 to Mary McAllister, whose family owned the store at the corner of Alamo Street. Both Kirchner and McAllister used the caliche block residence as a rental property. The City of San Antonio bought this house and the McAllister store for the expansion of La Villita in 1949. , Like many mid-nineteenth century San Antonio homes, this house has a gable running parallel to the front of the house. The large setback from Villita Street is unique in the area. The window-door-door-window partner is here juxtaposed against the four-bay front porch. Simple latticed panels arch between each column. , Archaeological investigations documented a fireplace associated with the original structure during renovation of the Faville House in 2021. The fireplace in the northernmost room was made of rough limestone cobbles and mortar with a lining of handmade bricks along the hearth. Excavation also revealed the remains of a plaster floor and artifacts that predate the construction of the Faville House.
