Mount Joy in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
The Philip Frank House
Addition built 1874
Philip H. Frank bought this lot in 1868 and built this 3-story brick home prior to 1874. He was a very prosperous Malt Master. He came to this county from Germany as a miller, but soon decided he could make more money as a Maltster. He started his malt business in 1856, but his business grew so fast that by 1886 he built a 5-story malt house. Because of his thriving business, Mount Joy was known as the "Malt Capital of the United States" from 1856-1912.
