1. Betsy Ross Flag - Circa 1790 Marker
Inscription.
The "Betsy Ross Flag", with the stars arranged in a circle, first appeared in the early 1790's. Although popularly believed that she made the first American flag at the request of George Washington, there is no historical verification of the claim. Betsy Ross did make flags in her upholstery shop in Philadelphia, including one for the Pennsylvania Navy and one with stars in a circle.
