In memory of Dr. Rudolf Benario and Ernst Goldmann, young communists from Fürth, both from Jewish families, who were the first victims murdered by the National Socialists in Dachau concentration camp on April 12, 1933.
And in remembrance of all the courageous women and men who were persecuted and murdered for their resistance against fascist barbarity.

“ The memorial consists of several elements, totaling almost seven tons of steel and half a ton of aluminum. The three metal steles are intended to commemorate the felled birch trees, which were designated as "natural monuments," and each weighs nearly a ton. The two metal plates on the side stylize the former boathouse and clubhouse of the canoe club, where Goldmann and Benario were active members in the 1930s. Each plate bears an inscription; according to Hermann and Weber, the letters were individually cold-pressed into the steel plate using a force of up to 100 tons.” - FürthWiki (in translation)
