The Union of American Women, Puerto Rico Chapter, dedicates this tribute to the memory of the first Puerto Rican woman with civic aspirations. In 1651, during the reign of Philip IV, King of Spain, she founded the Convent of the Carmelite Nuns
(To which undertaking she devoted all her worldly goods.)
