Jay W. Hosty
| | TA Citizen Driver | |
On this day August 30, 2025, this location was dedicated to Jay Hosty, Citizen Driver. Jay's journey began at the age of 19 when he purchased his first truck a month before marrying his wife Katt. Now, 43 years and 3.5 million career miles later, Jay shares his experience with other owner operators and has earned Overdrive Magazine's 2023 Driver of the Year.
Jay has been honored numerous times throughout his driving career for his unwavering commitment to safety. Driving for Landstar, he has received numerous Star of Quality awards including a Million Miler and the highest status of Road Star.
Jay exemplifies professionalism and served on the OOIDA board of directors for 16 years and is a lifetime member, selected for the role in 1994 at only 32 years old. He was one of the youngest ever member of the OOIDA Board of Directors elected and helped establish OOIDA's Safe Driver Award.
He is not only a dedicated driver but also deeply committed to his family and community. In 2022, Jay and Katt were named Hancock County's Foster Parents of the Year, having fostered over two hundred children and adopted eight. Jay's dedication to service took him to a small village in Mexico with his church, where he volunteered to help dig wells and connect with local families-an experience that left a lasting impact on him. He serves with Eight Days of Hope, an organization helping communities that are devastated by natural disasters. Since 2005, the organization has served families with rebuilding and repairing homes and lives.
Jay's sense of giving is no surprise. He is a member of America Truck Historical Society, supports St. Christopher, Truck Stop Ministries and Trucker's Final Mile and is active with his local church. Proud husband to his wife Katt of 43 years and Jay considers her "the woman behind the man behind the wheel". He is a proud father, loving grandfather, devoted husband, and a valued member of his church and community, continuously exemplifying generosity, humility, and service.
The Citizen Driver program was developed to celebrate the best of the best in the trucking industry. This honor recognizes drivers who earn public respect for the industry through good citizenship, safety, health and wellness, community involvement and leadership.
