En homenaje amoroso de los residentes de la Capital cuyos destinos durigio durante 22 años, con dedicacion, profundo afecto, honradez y extraordinaria creatividad.

Nació en Ceiba el 9 de enero de 1897, murio en San Juan el 16 de septiembre de 1994.

Luchadora de los derechos políticos de la mujer puertorriqueña, fue la primera mujer electa como Alcaldesa de esta Ciudad Capital, Legó a los residentes de San Juan una impresionante obra publica, que todavia sirve de base para el desarrollo continuo de nuestra Ciudad. Protectora y fiel aliada de los más necesitados, desarrollo nomerosos programas innovadores de servicios sociales que perduran al día de hoy.

Su labor fue reconocida a través de todo el Continente Americano, Designada como Mujer de los Américas en 1954, llevo un mensaje de paz y esperanza a los pueblos de nuestro hemisterio.

Su Jucha tenaz en favor de los niños to hizo desarrollar las Escuelos Maternalas, un pragmatic de educación preescolar que sirvio de modelo y fue replicado por el Presidente John F. Kennedy través de los Estados Unidos bajo el nombre de Head Start.

(English Translation):
In loving tribute from the residents of the Capital, whose destinies she guided for twenty-two years with dedication, profound affection, integrity, and extraordinary creativity.

She was born in Ceiba on January 9, 1897, and died in San Juan on September 16, 1994.

A champion of Puerto Rican women's political rights, she was the first woman elected Mayor of this Capital City. She bequeathed to the residents of San Juan an impressive legacy of public works that still serves as the foundation for the continued development of our City. A protector and faithful ally of the most needy, she developed numerous innovative social service programs that endure to this day.

Her work was recognized throughout the entire American continent. Designated as Woman of the Americas in 1954, she carried a message of peace and hope to the peoples of our hemisphere.

tenacious advocacy on behalf of children led her to develop the Escuelas Maternales—a preschool education program that served as a model and was replicated by President John F. Kennedy across the United States under the name Head Start.

Her elegance, her wit, her total dedication to families in need, and her boundless generosity are forever etched in the collective memory of the residents of this City of San Juan Bautista, in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
