Roy Shafer is best remembered at COSI as President & CEO, mentor, and friend. Roy's science center career began as a Student Volunteer at the Center of Science and Industry's original 280 E. Broad Street location. Throughout his 31 year career at COSI, Roy developed a legacy that embraces experiential learning and exemplary guest service. COSI is proud of Roy's many accomplishments, affiliations and activities inside and outside of COSI, devoted to advancing science education and leadership development. In presenting Roy Shafer with the 1999 Association of Science & Technology Fellow Award for Outstanding Contribution to the museum field, ASTC President Jeff Rudolph honored him with these words:

"Roy's unwavering sense of mission for our field is infused with progressive thinking and dynamic leadership, and is always enriched with humor and caring for his colleagues."

We cherish his memory and his motto:
