1. Conconully Marker
Inscription. Conconully sprang alive in 1896, a rip-roaring mining camp known as Salmon City. Fire wiped out most of the town in 1892, in May 1894 a run off flood roared down the north fork of Salmon Creek wiping out the business district. The reservoir below town, built in the early 1900s was one of the first federal reclamation projects in the U.S. Conconully served as Okanogan County seat from 1888-1914. It is believed the Indians called this entire area, including the lake, Conconully and in Indian means "the beautiful land of the bunch grass flats".
