Inscription.
The Carroll Farmhouse and Cemetery is associated with a historic African American community in western Charles County known as Poseytown which was established in the 19th century. One of its original residents was Richard K. Posey who fathered children with Lettie (Lottie) Diggs. Their daughter Angeline Posey married Anthony Carroll, a carpenter, who built a two-story addition to the existing one-room dwelling. Lettie was one of the original mothers of Mt. Hope Church and the farmhouse served as a local gathering place for the congregation. The nearby cemetery includes over 70 unmarked graves from the late 19th to mid-20th century including lettie and many family descendants and neighbors. Today the 50-acre farm is permanently protected by a conservation easement.

Erected by Charles County, Maryland.
