Site of Jacob Wentz Tavern

This 260-year-old lilac bush marks the site of the Jacob Wentz Tavern. The entrance to Deer Creek Road is on the roadbed of the original Skippack Pike over which George Washington and the Revolutionary Army traveled on the way to the Methacton Hills, two miles east there they encamped until October 4, 1777, when they fought the Battle of Germantown.

The sign is situated in front of a 260+ year old lilac bush on the corner of Hollow Road and Deer Creek Road which marks the site of the original Jacob Wentz Tavern as well as the entrance of the original Skippack Pike (now Deer Creek Road). The modern Skippack Pike (PA Route 73) is just to the north east at the end of Hollow Road at a T intersection. Deer Creek Road is now a short residential road ending with a cul-de-sac. This sign is an exact replica of the original, replaced in 2024 (40 years after first being erected in 1984).
