Dear family, I received your letter of the 26th of June this morning and I tell you I was glad to hear from you We have as good a bed to sleep on as you have at home. We have good mattresses to lay on which is better than straw and I have three new blankets and a good bed comfort we have beds up off the gorund. We are living like kings we have good times here. I come on duty only one day of every eight. And balance of time I have nothing to do but loaf around and eat which I can do my share at. We have a first rate cook and plenty to eat The prisoners are rolling in here every day from Petersburg and Richmond. We have about 18,000 here now but they are dying off like the devil. We bury about 15 of them every day so that makes frome in the bullpen for more
