Inscription. Developers beckoned hopeful settlers with the dream of owning land to land offices where workers drew property lines and assigned private rights.

When the Kern County Land Company was organized in 1890, much of the county was undeveloped. The company enticed farmers to the region by building an irrigation system consisting of weirs, canals and levees to provide water for farming.

The exhibit displays artifacts utilized in a land office dating from the 1860s.

Originally the home of Oscar and Libbie Rudnick, this structure was located on the grounds of the Kern Valley Packing Company. Libbie cooked meals in this home for the employees of the meat packing plant. Elynor Rudnick Falk donated this former residence to the museum in 1977.
