Ruth Ling was born on 10th September 1952. She was first elected to Lambeth council in 1994 – and was longest serving Clapham councillor in modern times. Cllr Ling spent many years as a senior member of planning committee – overseeing decisions on developments such as new leisure centres in Norwood, Streatham and Clapham.

Ruth was a fluent Portuguese speaker after living for a time in Brazil. She was previously a freelance journalist working for trade magazines covering, amongst other things, the satellite communications industry.
