Scotland in St. Mary's County, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
New Buoy Technology
By the early 20th century, the Lighthouse Board and Service adopted additional designs for buoys. These included metal nun and can buoys, lighted buoys, and whistle and bell buoys. Many of these varieties are still in use today. Bells are now often incorporated into lighted buoys. Lighted buoys are now battery- or solar-powered.
