On October 10, 1973 Officer Terrence Flood was dispatched to 1780-1794 Stratford Avenue on a report of a fire with trapped occupants. Officer Flood entered the building and went to the second-floor rear apartment and located the two small children who were trapped and brought them to safety. Officer Flood was then later found unconscious and was rescued by Firefighters Franklin Jones and Lieutenant Timmons.
Officer Flood was transported to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition, he sustained permanent damage to his brain due to smoke inhalation. In addition, his injuries included anoxia, organic mental dysfunction, visual defects and decreased lung function.
Officer Flood was never able to return to duty and died from complications from his injuries that he sustained on the job on May 26, 2016.
Officer Flood was 29 at the time of his injury. He left two small children Terry Flood III and Louis Flood, five and two years, respectfully.
