1. The Carpenter Shop Marker

Inscription. In 1988, with demolition pending, the newly-formed Whittier Mill Village Association worked to save your architectural elements of the once vast Whittier Mills Company complex. Only the 1905 carpenter shop and the 1896 tower from the main mill were salvaged. In 2004, with a grant awarded by the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, the carpenter shop ruins were stabilized and adaptively reutilized as an open-air pavilion.

The historic building remains fragile and requires special care. All park visitors should refrain from activities that might harm the old bricks such as kicking balls, riding bikes, crawling through the windows, or nailing into the walls.

This building may be reserved for group events following the rules and regulations of the City of Atlanta, Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. For more information, visit whittiermillvillage.com/park.
