This beautiful home was built in 1894 by local contractor, Nels Gormsen, for Samuel Goldstein who came to Gladstone in 1889. Goldstein established a Dry Goods store at 801 Delta Avenue and operated the store for 24 years. Mr. Goldstein was born in Poland/Russia in 1854 and married Dorothy Jacobson, they raised four children. Goldstein was viewed as a very prominent leader in the city and upon retirement, he sold the home to Dr. David N. Kee. Dr. Kee arrived in Gladstone in 1894. He was born in Ontario Canada and attended medical school in his home country. Arriving in Gladstone, he set up his practice on Delta Avenue. He married Elizabeth Smith in 1898, and they made their home in the same Delta Avenue location. They had one son.

Dr. Kee was on call day and night. He traveled first with a horse and buggy and later with a three seat Ford, to the woods, lumber camps and farmhouses. He held office hours in the evenings for the workers. He wasn't always paid but he never denied service.

Dr. Kee purchased this home from Mr. Goldstein in 1913 and moved his practice to this location. To accommodate his new office, the

home was lifted from the foundation, and the basement was expanded. An outside entrance was added for patients. He was president of the school board, served as the County Medical Examiner and on the Delta County Medical Society Board. He worked closely with Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Miller here in the city. He was an avid hunter and fisherman which was evident in his office decor of mounted trophy animals.

When Dr. Kee's first wife passed away, he married Mary Loftus and they had six children. Dr. David N. Kee died in 1935. This amazing home is a true testament of historic preservation.
