1. Tawa Town Marker
Inscription. The Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma's origins partially began here. The Auglaize River was the southernmost tip of their cultural influence during the 17th century. Their ancestors were neighbors, trade partners, and allies to the Shawnee nation, amongst other Tribes in the Ohio country. Beginning in 1832, Ottawa citizens were removed from their homes in northwest Ohio and forced west, first to Kansas, then finally to Oklahoma.
