1. Chimney Swifts Marker
Chimney swifts are birds that nest in Ohio but migrate to South America in the winter. They were common when Ohio was covered in old forests, finding plenty of broken hollow trees to roost or nest in. As we cleared the land, their numbers fell until the industrial revolution provided large chimneys. Now these chimneys are getting fewer and the birds are again declining, so towers like the one in the prairie attempt to provide substitute habitat.
