Old No. 9 Trail. . , All Aboard! , The railroad changed Boerne forever as it reduced the journey to San Antonio from one grueling day's ride to a three hour trip with the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway Company, which came into existence through the support of men like Uriah Lott, the railway's second president. Portions of the route are an ancient one, following segments of the Pinta Trail, which was a Native American trail that followed water sources across gentle topography., The name of the Old No. 9 does not refer to an actual railway, but rather the name of an unused state highway nearby that followed the Old San Antonio and Old Fredericksburg Roads. The name Old No. 9 is, therefore, a symbolic way to remember the evolution of transportation throughout the Boerne area., Overview of the Trail , The Old No. 9, with its picturesque depot shade pavilion and water tower, is nearby if you choose to continue your journey after you explore the River Road Trail. The trail is 1.4 miles long with six rest stops. Trail amenities include trailheads at Esser Road, Blanco Road, and Frederick/Garden St. with a drinking fountain at each. There is also a dog drinking fountain at the Blanco Rd. Trailhead and a spray mister at the Esser Rd. Trailhead. Additionally, the interpretative signage along the trail explains the important and interesting history of the railroad through Boerne.
