Lone Star Cemetery. . This burial ground is one of the last reminders of the Lone Star community. The area was settled in the 1850s, mostly by farmers from other southern states. When Calvin Gilmore and Evaline (Bateman) Jackson's infant son, Calvin Burten, and Calvin's brother, Crippen, died ten days apart in December 1878, the family buried them on land that would eventually become Lone Star Cemetery. Calvin Gilmore Jackson died February 1, 1901, and is buried in Lone Star Cemetery. At least 14 burials are from the Jackson family, including the family matriarch, Amanda (Smith) Jackson (d. 1861). , Although the exact year is unknown, a cemetery association formed around the turn of the twentieth century. The burial ground increased from 20 graves in 1904 when trustees Marshall Cockrell, W.J. Bateman and C.G. Jackson purchased five acres from J.A. White for a burial ground, church and school. The church and school were ultimately built in a different location. In 1966, trustees purchased an additional half-acre from Leonard and Miriam Bowen. , Burials reflect the local community, including farmers, ranchers and school teachers. The cemetery holds over 50 veteran burials, representing the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. Further improvements, including a gate and pavilion, were added in the early 21st century. Lone Star Cemetery continues to be active as the descendants of Lone Star settlers are buried with their ancestors.
