To put this into perspective, 52 mile north of you rests the town of ★Cedar Springs, Ontario. If you were to drive 52 miles south down Route 83, you would reach Wooster, Ohio, which would take about 1.5 hours. It is truly a Great Lake. Lake Erie has a total surface area of 9,940 square miles, an average depth of 62 feet, and a maximum depth of 210 feet. She spans from 57 miles wide at her widest, and about 250 miles from Buffalo, New York to Toledo, Ohio., Lake Erie was formed around 12,000 years ago during the last Ice Age, when retreating glaciers reshaped the Great Lakes region. As the glaciers advanced and receded, they left behind distinct features like the glacial grooves on Kelley's Island. These features are known as striations, valleys cut into the landscape by rocks and debris carried by the ice. Glaciers also formed moraines, steps of terrain created by debris pulled up and deposited by glaciers. These ridges offer a visible record of the shifting shorelines of early Lake Erie, and the topography of northeast Ohio. In fact, many roads and even the city of North Ridgeville are named after these formations., Lake Erie is the middle section of the Great Lakes' water flow system. Water from Lake Huron flows into Lake St. Clair, then into Lake Erie. From there, it travels through Niagara Falls into Lake Ontario, and finally flows down the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean.
