Dr. Georgia "Jo" Swanson
Professor of Speech Communication 1967 - 2000
Dr. Georgia "Jo" Swanson was a beloved professor, trailblazer And leader at Baldwin Wallace. She graduated from BW in 1956 and began a teaching career in the Berea City Schools. She joined the BW faculty in 1967, and earned a master's degree from Kent State University in 1973 and a doctorate from Bowling Green University in 1982. In addition to the 33 years she spent in the classroom, she led many university committees and initiatives, including the Faculty Committee, Curriculum Committee and Sesquicentennial Celebration. She was an active advocate for women. In 1990, she was named Ohio's Outstanding Speech Teacher and was listed in who's who in women. She was recognized with BW's Outstanding Educator Award in 2006. She and her husband Al established the Harold V. and Florence V. Swanson Scholarship in honor of Al's parents. In 2015, Al created the Dr. Georgia M. Swanson Scholarship to honor Jo and her outstanding career in education.
