A much loved and respected member of the Baldwin-Wallace College faculty, Don Pickering received the Carl S. Bechberger Award for human development in 1972, he was responsible for several firsts during his tenure at B-W including teaching the first honors class at the college, teaching the first class awarding credit for "prior learning experience" and instituting the prison education program at the Grafton Prison Farm, although he retired from full-time teaching in 1979, he continued to teach at the college until 1988. He will be remembered for the genuine concern he displayed for every student in his classes.
