Inscription. Here at Woodland rest Wilbur and Orville Wright—and many others who contributed much to Dayton and America. Not far from the modest headstone of the inventors of the airplane is the grave of Paul Laurence Dunbar, a prominent early 20th-century African American poet and author. Dunbar was a highschool classmate of Orville Wright.

Shown above is the Wright family gravesite during the funeral of Wilbur Wright, who died of typhoid fever in 1912.

Wilbur Wright 1867 - 1912

Orville Wright 1871 - 1948

Paul Laurence Dunbar 1872 - 1906

The Wright and Dunbar graves are located 0.3 mile from here near the center of Section 101. These sites are accessible by car.

Please drive slowly and with respect.
